State NGV Incentives
In an effort to reduce America’s dependence on foreign oil, reduce urban emissions and reduce greenhouse gases, 35 state governments, as well as many regional and local governments, offer vehicle buyers and owners incentives to buy and operate natural gas vehicles. These incentives include tax deductions/credits, reduced license fees, reduced vehicle sale taxes, and lower registration fees. Some states also permit certain alternative fuel vehicles to operate in high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes during peak rush-hour periods. These incentives are constantly changing as some programs expire and new ones are created. For information on incentives for a specific state, contact that state’s energy office.
